It turns out that PM ranks above phlebotomist and line cook as the job most people are trying to leave. And yet, in tech companies, it seems that everyone is trying to be a product manager! So, this survey may be surprising to some, but if you've been in the role a while, you'll start to see why.

There seems to be more erosion of the idea that product management is necessary.

I definitely don't think that all PMs get it right all the time. I have met the PM persona who thinks that they should be the dictator of the product. They're not and they fail. I've also met the wet noodle product evangelists who think they are PMs. They are easily cut as they are completely inconsequential.
